Author Ollie D. Bass
Born in wayne county North Carolina just out side of Goldsboro June
29, 1931. Family moved to Goldsboro when I was twelve I and grew up in Goldsboro attending school there. I worked in construction
most of my life. I was in the bar and night club business for nineteen years while still in the construction business. I started
cooking as a young boy and still cook today. My mother taught me the basics of cooking when I was still knee high to
a grass hopper. As I grew older I experimented with different foods and came up with some pretty good recipes. I cooked with
beer for years, one day I spill some in the food and found out how good it was and I've been cooking with beer every since
and sometimes I put some in the food. In the bar and night club business I looked for every way I could to promote my business.
I found cooking and feeding people was a big draw. So we cooked for every occasion we could think of. Of course the more you
do anything the better you get. We cooked just about anything you can name over the years. I had people ask me over the years
how I prepared this or that and I never told. I decided after getting out of the business I would share my recipes and secrets.
I started writing the book not knowing what I was really doing. It took 3 1/2 years to finish. I almost gave up on it several
times. After moving to Van Wyck South Carolina and retiring at 70 I had more time and ambition to complete it. I didn't want
just a cook book of recipes, I wanted a book with recipes. It's fill wth stories, facts, wisdom, hints and humor. I'm sure
you will enjoy reading the book if you never cook a single recipe.
You never want to make any body sick not even the dog. To make sure you never
make any one sick from meat not cooked to the right temperature you need insurance. The best insurance I know of is a good
thermometer and use it when cooking to make sure you are safe. I recommend the one below because it takes all the guessing
out. It's digital, easy to read so Bubba and the Rednecks are sure of what they are doing.
